About Elyssa Dawn
Elyssa Dawn was born in Toronto, Ontario, where she grew up with a love for writing and a deep empathy for others. As a child, she often expressed herself through poetry and storytelling, finding comfort in words as a way to understand the world around her. Her natural compassion and desire to help people later led her to pursue a diploma in Social Service Work. With that, she contributed some of her time working on the downtown eastside of Vancouver, BC, where she worked with individuals facing significant challenges, which deepened her passion for advocacy and mental health awareness.
During the pandemic, her longtime dream of publishing her collection of poetry came to life. With the extra downtime, she learned how to use book-building software and created what is now known as Being Human. She is passionate about raising awareness about mental health issues and dedicated to helping others by sharing her own personal experiences. She believes that helping people realize they are not alone is impactful, and that creating connection can spark hope for recovery.
